We put the ingestible skincare trend to the test
Collagen is fast becoming the must-have have supplement for those craving a youthful visage. From bloggers to nutritionists, everyone seems to be tucking into collagen-rich bone broths and beauty juices. This month, I had the chance to find out for myself whether it was worth all the hype and I’m pleased to report that it was glowing success. Beautycoll, a premium brand offering 100 percent natural marine collagen with an extra hit of hyaluronic acid, was the supplement of a choice. Just one berry-flavoured sachet mixed with water is enough to provide your daily dosage. It also contains vitamin A, vitamin C, zinc and biotin – a youth-restoring cocktail if ever I saw one. It took a while to take its effect, but once the results started to appear they just kept on coming. My skin felt softer and tighter, fine lines around my eyes were reduced and my hair and nails were stronger and shinier, too! The only downside (if you could call it that) is that the drink develops a slightly fishy aroma if it’s not consumed right away – it’s sourced from marine life after all – but bearing in mind that it’s a supplement not a beverage, if you drink it one go rather than sipping it slowly, you won’t even notice.
