START YOUR YEAR WITH A STORY STARRING YOU, SAYS GURU KIRSTEN RIDDLE
It’s hard to believe it’s the start of another year. As I get older they seem to come around faster! But I do look forward to January. With my writer’s hat on, I see it as the start of a new book – a clean page from which I can create anything. Writing things down can help define what you want from the year ahead. So why not imagine you’re writing a story? Keep it simple and make yourself the central character. If it helps, create a storyboard with a series of pictures.
Each one should show a step in the journey to what you hope to achieve. Write key words down, so for example if you want to travel the world you might put ‘adventure’, ‘culture’ and ‘action’. Don’t limit your dreams. You can do many things in one story, so include them all and have fun. Keep this in a notebook and add to it regularly. Let your journey unfold as if it’s an exciting new novel!
Get moving. It follows that if you’re physically active, you’ll be mentally active. So go for a brisk walk. Clean the house from top to bottom, or stick some music on and dance. This is a great way to fire up the mind.
Chew on a carrot. This wonderful vegetable stimulates mind and body and it’s packed full of energising nutrients.
