If you like your yoga deep and spiritual, kundalini could be for you.
Designed to awaken the energy the energy in the spine which, according to tantra, rests at its base like a coiled serpent, this practice includes chanting, breathing techniques such as alternate nostril breathing, meditation and asanas.
Some yogis work for years to ‘awaken’ the energy, which will then flow freely up through the seven chakras of the body and lead to an expanded state of consciousness, something known as kundalini awakening.
Many teachers advise caution when practising this form of yoga however. They say you should work with an experienced expert if you want to try to achieve it as the unleashing of the serpent could cause havoc in the body and mind!
